do an assignment on the culture of base jumping..

i am not a BASE jumper but would love to learn more about it.
My shots will not be used in any media outlets. They will be used for
my assignment then given to the jumper....

Not all people are out to get in get wat they want and leave..

I'm a student photographer looking only to take pictures of city skylines from the roofs of buildings. Honestly.

no point continuing on here if im just going to cope that
shit. My assignment is to glorify the culture, but if every1 in it is as thick headed as you then that'll be the hardest part.

what you are missing is credibility. why should we trust you?

seriously!

you are NOT the first to come on these forums asking for subjects to flim/photograph. many here deplore the lack of control that we then have over the resulting work. who is to say a year from now you will not use your work inappropriately?

(in the early days of the internet, many websites promised privacy. then they were bought out, and the new owner through the promised privacy out the window.)

again, why should we trust you? we as a group do NOT have a great history with these requests... we HAVE been burned in the past.

be happy someone tried to give you a serious response, without earning any trust.

but it is very VERY frustrating to have alot of people crack

Are there many professional shots of BASE jumper??

how about research?
what do you know?

do you realize some jumpers trespass to gain altitude? do you really think they want that filmed?

do you realize building owners are typically adverse to having their buildings jumped? it really is not good for these building to be seen in a video.

have you researched where the big public events occur? (one is organized by an Aussie.) attending one might lead to contacts.

in short, what do you know about the sport? have you made ANY attempt before posting here?

if you do NOT understand your subject, how do you plan at putting them at ease? if not at ease, how can you capture the true moment? (I'd think they'd teach that at Uni...)

Firstly i am a photographer so my Camera does FILM! anything...

guess what i'm doing here RESEARCHING! Forums are generally a great place to start.

Talk to people who participate hear their stories maybe find a friend.

Also i'm not sure (cause you may not have researched it) But there is a program called photoshoot which can make anything u want disapear!! OMG how usefull...

I've tried to find event to attend but where do i ask???

the Aussie forum was as much help as this place..

Is photoshoot anything like Photoshop that a lot of jumpers use?

What are you documenting if you are doctoring images?

My missus will be upset when I tell her that she is no longer a photographer because her Nikon D200 is a digital SLR and doesn't take film. Does this mean she will have to close her business?

Hi mate,

look you are really going about this in the wrong way.
I am not a base jumper, I have a handful of skydives (I am australian though) and I have been lurking around these forums for about 2 years and have barely said boo. So this is coming from someone outside the base jumping community.

Why are things so hard to find out, because there are reems of information to get through not only of a technical nature, but of an attitudinal nature. How to approach things, how to find information out, best routes to go down without putting people off guard. This is a community that is involved in a sport which quite often takes on an illegal nature, remember that and also that the nature of the sport is meticulous in keeping yourself out of harms way.
That is why it can be be hard to get the info you would like as these people are protecting their livelyhood, lifestyle and lives.
And no offense but you could f*ck that all up for them if you don't earn their trust through something other than some posts on the internet.
Site locations, visual records of criminal acts and just general misuse of privledged information are what you want to be privy to and thats a big ask.
If you can't vest a good number of hours trawling through posts on this site and then some character assesment from the peoples lives who you intend to invade, then it really can't be that important to you.

Getting low on Australians...

To clarify, these links describe a fatality today at Romsdalen, an Australian BASE jumper aged 28. This should probably be discussed in a new thread.
