Does anyone know where this tower is?
That's the famous CN Tower in Toronto.
Iiro has jumped it !!
No he hasn't. He jumped the Skylon Tower in Niagara Falls. The CN Tower was jumped twice, the first time by a construction worker during construction who static-lined off the crane and got fired for it. Then by Dar Robinson. Bill Cole claims he turned down the offer because they weren;t going to pay him enough money.
In the late '80's Jo Stanley (Base 82) climbed the ropes the window washers had left overnight, using jumars. The climbing was much slower than he anticipated, and he was still going up much of the morning while news of the 'mystery climber' was discussed on radio and tv news. Traffic from the nearby island airport was diverted away from downtown to avoid a traffic jam in the sky as people tried to ogle what was happening.
Eventually Jo found himself beneath the observation windows, but in the deepest part of the 'V's made by the tower supports -- an unlucky place to do a jump from. The story was the cops took out a window and offered to let him onto the roof to jump, then arrest him after landing....
Of course, as he reached up to climb in the window, the cuffs went on and he was shown on the 6 o'clock news exiting the through the doors and saying 'the suckers lied to me!'
A rather heavy fine resulted, and CN investigated suing Jo for costs involved in shutting down 3 of the 4 elevators, resulting in cancelled restaurant reservations on a busy weekend. They decided not to sue.
