Dear Seattle locals
Hey, I'm a Vancouver jumper looking for some friendly washington folk who would like to jump a big mountain around Seatle, if you know what I'm talking about. Haven't been there yet, but I've done my research, and know the access, and such. I would enjoy a friend to share the jump with, and someone to show me the exit point. thanx. later.

Just so everyone knows, this place is no secret. I will jump it with or without you. But it would fun to watch somebody go first,

Thats the only part I had to read. With an attitude like that you aren't likely to get much help from anybody.

You obviously know how to do research, why haven't you researched who jumps in Seattle and ask directly?

From my experience, most jumpers would like to know the following information about you before they take you out to one of their local sites: a description of your experience, skill, jumping buddies and ethical endorsements ('leave no trace' or 'fuck it all'). I personally think that openly offering this information when approaching locals tends to result in the best outcomes.

I think it is funny that when nobody responds to a post for a couple days (in this case 1.5 hours) that the original poster often assumes that the locals are intentionally not responding and thus saying "screw you" to the original poster.

Give them a chance to respond there buddy, not everyone checks these forums every hour.

Did you really think posting this was going to help your cause? I would like to know what was going through your head at the time.

Re: [mntman] Dear Seattle locals
Dear Adam Rositch,

Your experience level (36 jumps, 3 objects) is not appropriate for the jump you are considering. Get a mentor, learn the right way, and get slider up cliff experience elsewhere first. This is a remote and technical jump that you speak off. It is not a free for all…

Since when have you new people started thinking it’s ok to just do what ever the heck you want with total disregard for those who put in the effort to study, open, and maintain access to jumps? The Seattle crew maintains a delicate balance with the King and Snohomish County Sheriffs and Search and Rescue units. We visit them, educate them, and donate money to them. We do everything to act and behave in a responsible and professional fashion.

There is a lot more to backcountry BASE jumping than just “showing up and jumping”. Like I said get the appropriate cliff experience in more forgiving environments, and then get back to us when you have about 75-100 cliff jumps.

We already see the remnants of gear on the ledge where our friend died on the jump you are considering. Did your research yield that info?

Regards,

Tom Dancs

There's one misprint--not that it matters much:
Mountain, not fountain. The majestic touch."

Good luck on your short BASE career. (to original poster)

Sorry about jumping to conclusions, the attitude was in response to somebodies jerk off comment and one of my local jumpers base god aura. But I do have slider up experience, 15 wingsuit jumps in Norway this summer. Yes I agree this is a remote jump and it appears I have little experience. I was simply inquiring about the difficulty of the jump. I have enough common sense to make my own judgement but a little help can take you a long way. I am an experienced climber/backcountry skiier and know my way around in the mountains. I am intereted in knowing how many seconds to the first ledge and also the vertical to the talus? Is the exit point on the summit? This info would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps with your help and I could share a little info about a big cliff up my way. Cheers hey.

I can vouch for this. I've done some climbing, exploring and skydiving with Adam. Exploring Steinbok together was great fun.

We've had our disagreements in the past, and our BASE jumping paths have diverged, but he's been jumping the local objects without incident and as he mentions; he has done the Norway thing. That means Adam must have been doing something right, so far.

I suggest the Seattle locals ignore my earlier advice, and give this guy a chance.

Adam; I applaud you for your dedication to BASE. I was pleasantly surprised to hear you went to Norway and hucked it.

I only just realized that may be talking about me. If it's not, disregard this message.

If it is, I apologize. I don't mean to be a BASE god. I am as much a dumbass as most of us. Case in point, my recent TARD of the local span.

I obviously take a special interest in my local objects and will go through some amount of effort to protect their jumpability. But other than that, I think I've mostly kept to myself. What is said at our dropzone, I can't help.

Furthermore, BASE skill is the least of my concerns in my jumping partners. I care more about whether or not I click with a person. If our case, I think we mutually agreed that our jumping strategies diverged, as did our recommended ways to get in the sport. So be it, I don't think that reflects poorly on either of us. We both get to enjoy our shared objects, and so be it.

Maybe I'll see you at the exit. I'll be the first to high-five you after we land.

Re: [MyTwoCents] Dear Seattle locals
No worries, I was just getting a feel for the local scene. Theres a lot more active jumpers around than I thought. I definately agree with approaching objects with respect. As stated before I was merely gathering info. You know I have a mentor who has 600 something basejumps and all is under control. But he is lazy and this homework is my end of the deal. So do you care to share your info.

Nice quote. I love that book.

This seems like a convenient, and I hope not disrespectful, place to point out an error on the /bfl/. The mountain you are discussing is in WA==Washington State, and is not in WA==Western Australia. (See entries #82 and #82 at //www.splatula.com/bfl/).

I'm curious, how many wingsuit skydives did he have? And was this his first wingsuit base?

Can I suggest that we keep local drama local?

Get everyone together at the pub, talk about it in person, and keep the attention off the internet.?
