how do you post sharp, crisp photos while still not exceeding the maximum file size. Most of my photos are 4x what is allowed. If I change to large format instead of fullsize, the image becomes grainy. any suggestions?
Are you trying to upload images that are 4MB? You can currently upload photos up to 1MB / 2000x2000 pixels. That's pretty big for the web...
If yor images are larger than 1MB then use the software that came with your digital camera, or any of the graphic /photo applications you can find on the web and Size the photo down. I'm sure there are experts here who can tell you the name of the best free graphics app. I use Photoshop.
I've just been using windows XP and the resize picture option when you right click on a photo. I shoot with a 20D and the photos are around 4mb each. When I size them the next size down to "large", they become 50-100kb and look pretty crappy.
I find it's faster just to use Mac OS X Preview to resize the image. And it's free, too.
Ether and Tom are both right. I also sometimes use iPhoto to crop and resize images. I doubt that it is any better than Ether's solution, or any easier than Tom's, but if you are already familiar with its interface, you might find it a good option.
