I thought it was already "MySbase". Or "base fook".

I always refer to dropzone.com as "dz.com". The first time I referred to basejumper.com in this way, I decided to not use this abbreviation in mixed company again...

Ah, but do you say "dee zee" as in English, or do you say "dee zed" as in Canuckish?

DeeZee as in American.. DeeZed as in ENGLISH

Canadians are inconsistent in how they use "zee" and "zed".

They call the BMW little racer a "Zed-3" or "Zed-4"
They say "Eh to Zed"

Of course the band is "Zee Zee Top"
It's the "Dee Zee"
And its "Zee for Zorro" ;-)

Of course Canadians are also inconsistent on how they use "Imperial" and "Metric" measurements. A deli case will have: price per pound, price per kilogram, price per hundred grams (100g). Each item is labelled only once though, so it isn't as though they do the translations for you. Sometimes they don't even say what the price is for... so it may simply say $5.99 which could be /lb, /100g, or /kg you just have to guess sometimes. (Which makes a huge difference when trying to do price comparisons)

Gasoline is purchased by the liter, but milk is purchased by the gallon. Temperatures for cooking are in F, while talking about the day's weather is in Celsius. Depending on the generation people will tell you their body temperature in F or C.

Distances on the road are in kilometers, but the odometer reading is called "mileage" and the name of locations are named for how many 'miles' they are away from the main highway (see 100-mile house, 150-mile house). People's heights and weights are given in pounds, feet and inches. However when talking about distances metric is often used, except in aviation or skydiving where altitudes are always in feet.

I'm always surprised to hear people abbreviate it at all.

"Drop Zone" doesn't take any longer to say, it has the same number of syllables.

I don't know where you're buying your milk, but I've never seen it sold in quantities other than 250/500mL/1L/2L/4L. The 4L jug is only slightly bigger than a gallon jug (1 gallon = 3.87 L), so it can seem like you are still getting a gallon, though :)

That's because these places were named before metrification; see http://en.wikipedia.org/...etrication_in_Canada. I remember the struggle to convert the school curriculum to metric in the late 70s/early 80s.. some textbooks had figured it out, some did not.. so kids of our era pretty much learned a bit of both...

I think of distances in centimeters, feet, meters and kilometers but never inches, yards or miles (at the DZ altitude is in feet, but accuracy is measured in meters); volumes are always milliliters and liters, never ounces and gallons; weights are in grams and pounds and metric tonnes, not ounces and kilograms and tons. Except weed is always in ounces - Oh Cannabis!

Yes yes yes....I already coined the term MysBASE...and BASE must be capitalized in MysBASE to hold true to its acronymic roots. mysBASE is an acceptable, and maybe even better alternative

Well of course we use all the units, we buy our shit by the gram/ounce/pound. I'm pretty sure most of this country got imperial and metric mixed up in junior high. Might as well stay with what you know

50 in a hockey bag. Of course the Canadians know this because no Americans have hockey bags unless they take 50 at a time.
