2 charged with trespass in South Carolina
From http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/...ws/story/123428.html

In reply to:
Two men were charged with trespassing on Sunday after police said they were base jumping off an H***y C****y TV tower.

Jxxxx Wxxxxxxx, 41, of Conway, and Rxxx Dxxxxxxx, 27, of Greensboro, N.C., were charged in the incident and jailed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, Sgt. Bob Carr said.

Residents alerted police that the men were jumping off the tower using a parachute, Carr said. When officers arrived, the men were climbing the tower again, he said.

I understand the argument that once a news article has been posted on an internet site (such as it has been here) that the information is already out there and can be re-posted here. I'm not sure I agree with that argument, but that's another story.

What I don't really understand is: what good does it do to 'star' or censor out the name of the object in the post, when directly above that, in the link, the object is named?

Can anyone explain this to me? Am I missing something? Thanks.

Andrew

The link may not work forever.

Re: [dbagdrew] 2 charged with trespass in South Carolina
Two reasons:

1) The rules on this forum don't allow site naming.

2) The post on this message board will be archived on the internet far longer than the news story will be on the news site.

someone lacking in vital skills and knowledge could find a site (exit point) from this website and they would "know" its o.k. to jump..
that would be bad juju.

please remove the names of the jumpers.FrownPirate

general question: When accessing a site such as this (tower), where is the recommended parking? close? far away? hidden? out in the open?

just wondering.

I agree. "No jumper naming" should also be a rule (unless people voluntarily name themselves here).

why? care to elaborate?
(the site naming has been explained.)

when would you apply this rule?
names get mentioned a lot on the forums. do you propose all real names get omitted?

Some people will prefer that their names not appear in this context. I will continue to remove names by request, as well as names of those who have previously made such a request.

People who might prefer not to have their names in this forum could include:

1) People with unresolved family issues;
2) People who are high profile participants in related sports (for example, members of military demonstration teams who might face disciplinary action simply for participating in BASE);
3) People who might need to pass security checks or other background checks for employment

Those are just some quick examples of people who have requested their names be removed. I'm sure there are many other examples.

being a fan of anonymity, I can appreciate many of those reasons and agree.

it is also courteous to honor requests to remove names. no problem.

I just do not understand why there should be a rule against mentioning real names (similar to the site naming rule). would we no longer be able to say "John Agxxx?"

dropping names (for credit or shame) is a powerful socializing factor. why ban it outright?

What I meant was "if this person is not already well-known inside or outside the BASE community as a jumper, use discretion and don't name them". However, if John Agnos came on and said "hey stop throwing my name around", I'd respect that.

Re: [cpoxon] 2 charged with trespass in South Carolina
what exactly are they being charged with? Is this object normally ok to do multiple loads on? Has there been any previous interaction with the residents (negative or positive)?

good luck guys.
