signatures
Signatures are now being handled like avatars -- if you change your signature, the new signature appears is applied retroactively to your *old* posts.

Now, I can understand why it is a good idea to have a single avatar for a single user -- I become familiar with different people's avatars, and then they jump out at me as I go through threads. That wouldn't happen if a single user had a cacophony of avatars.

But I might want to change my signature from time to time, and I don't see any reason why the old signature shouldn't be left on the old posts.

Users will (at least, I will) respond to this by implanting their signatures in the body of their messages, rather than clicking the "append signature to post" box.

Was this new method of handling signatures a deliberate choice?

(I guess I'd better go check that it really is new -- i.e. that dropzone didn't work that way, but I never noticed.)

I don't think it's new. I think dropzone worked the same way.

Oh, hey, you are right. Sorry.

I never noticed because I didn't use a signature quote over there. In fact, it took me a while to test out -- I had to create a signature, then post something somewhere, then change my signature...

I still think it is wrong.

And I'm still going to post dummy signatures.
