Get rid of them....

I have some issues with the banner ad at the top of the page with Opera/Linux ... it reload all the time.

but with a urlfilter (like adblock for Firefox) no more problems .. and no more ads (banner and google ads)

adblock for mozilla... done!

I find it funny that the google ads are for tandem skydives I am pretty sure most users on this site are not interested in a tandem skydive. If there is going to be ads they should be for something that applies to us not the mass public that is unless this new site is intended for the mass public.

agreed, you'd have a better clickthrough rate if you found more direct advertisers, not google adsense.

but obviously ads are needed to keep a site running. the footer and sidebar are manageable, but the google ads above the forums (not the on way up in the header) is kinda overkill.

well, the Google ads must start somewhere.

give it some time, and I bet Google's algo...whatevers will improve the offers. they will refine the selection as they see fit.

actually... they start with public service announcements, and then after the site they're displayed on has been crawled by a bot they produce other content. so, technically... I think these ads are about as good as we're going to get... but I may be wrong.

well, Sangiro just made the site live and I don't see any public service announcements...

if possible, I suspect the ads will improve.
(I'd like to see some theme emerge besides dz's, porn, etc.)

hey, it's the internet. eventually porn, viagra, etc. will find a way to get a link on your screen.

if the nefarious stuff can provide a higher click-through rate than dz's, will Google stop it?

Aboslutley. I would love to fill this site with BASE related ads from manufacturers and the likes only. If you understand the size of that "industry" and the margins involved there's a good chance that's not going to happen overnight - to put it mildly. I'll still do my best to get the ads on here to be as relevant as possible - either via Google or other targeted campaign structures.
