Hello,

Read in Vancouver Sun newspaper, (B.C. Canada) about 2 Seattle BASE jumpers and video man getting arrested for BASE off 42 ft. high rise in the city. One jumper landed on parked car...some damage to a buildings gutter....
As this reporter did not give much info, anyone know more specific details?

I have questions to ask regarding this report.

1. Did the Seattle BASE jumpers not do enough research- and what research would be sufficient to BASE a building in the middle of busy downtown?
How & why was decision made to BASE 42 ft. building when 52 ft. building a few blocks away....
2. How is it possible that 3 people got arrested at the scene?
3. Were the BASE jumpers not experienced?
4. Shit happens but don't BASE jumpers feel as skydivers when it comes to promoting their sport?
5. Did Vancouver police confiscate gear, camera & video? What was the charge given?

I don't BASE yet, but it doesn't seem possible to jump a ~50ft anything... Was it a 34 or 43 story apartment building???

Legal action is still pending in this case. We should probably hold off public discussion of it until after all legal action is resolved.

That is a good call, Tom. I can tell you that the internet was used in a case in which I was a character witness for the defense. The prosecutors, even though their case was a bunch of malarky and poorly presented, still used information they had obtained from the internet. It was weak information, but from the internet nonetheless. I can imagine a good quality researcher could really dig up some useful stuff for a prosecution if he/she wanted. When it comes to discussion of Outlaw BASE Events, things are better left unwritten/unsaid. If you want to discuss it, perhaps pm each other back and forth.. or go to the pub and chat... somehwere where a guest-searchable record isn't maintained.

i totally agree Tom, holding off on internet discussion until the legalities are over is always the best route..no need to make a bad situation worse..

but i have tons of questions reguarding their ground prep (i'm not a BASE jumper yet, but have observed hundreds of hit and run rappels from buildings all over the US and your ground prep and egress route planning should always be very very high on your priority list

Article says they were jumping from the 42nd floor.

That's good. I am DEFINITELY not going stowed from 42 ft.

I'd go from 42 feet with no gear whatsoever over water...

Apparently these reporters don't think too highly of our "sport". Guess they've never tried climbing an 1100 foot antenna with gear.
