The public perception of BASE...
In reply to:
Dear Kurt,

Not to derail your train, but I have sharp recollections of a woman
killed BASE jumping from ** *** in ********. Purportedly didn't check
her borrowed chute, and also in defiance of park regulations.

I really can't think of anything like ******** in ** ***,except
buildings in ** Never even heard of the *********quarry!

We have the *********** bridge up here, common for suicides, and movie
stunts. Although I think BASE jumping is now illegal, there.

Please try roped rock climbing as a thrill sport. I have no idea of
how experienced you are at BASE jumping, and although I once did
something like that in microcosm, it's pretty dangerous. Somebody got
killed skydiving here recently. Accidents happen all the time.

Good luck, but I think it's too risky to try jumping from any rock in
******** **. No time for a chute to open, and winds, too. Say, maybe
you can ask a casino in *****. There's ***** and the ***********
Tower, although I recall someone got killed there, too.

**** *******.

Re: [HydroGuy] The public perception of BASE...
did any of you people have a delusion that the general public is even remotely open to BASE jumping?

Hopeless...

Re: [HydroGuy] The public perception of BASE...
The Catch-22. If a BASE jumper dies it is reported. If a BASE jumper lives it is not reported (because of legality). Thus the public hear about the failures but not about the success and the perception of BASE jumping remains negative.

Your post insinuates that all BASE jumps are illegal.

what the hell is being said here?

Re: [base428] The public perception of BASE...
I did not mean to insinuate that all BASE jumps are illegal. I was trying to state that it is hard to change the perception of something when the negative aspects are often discussed but the positive aspects often aren't (because of the current perception or state of legality).

Re: [460] The public perception of BASE...
I have been inquiring about some new E's on what should be legally jumpable grounds. Contacted some very experienced trekkers and climbers, thinking they would know the topography of the area best...and could possibly guide me to some areas for further research.(any vertical walls over 200') When I was asked what I was up to, I responded honestly, "searching out new sites to BASE jump". This was just a response that I got.

Re: [HydroGuy] The public perception of BASE...
I am a climber (and hopefully someday a BASE jumper) and while many climbers I know have nothing against BASE jumping they also have nothing for BASE jumping and thus they are hesitant to help because they are already facing access issues themselves in many cases.

And what "something like BASE in microcosm" would be, Mr. **** *******? A spermatozoon jumping into a vagina, like into the Cave of the Swallows?

Hey Mat, I don't have this ilusion, this is 60% reality here in Brazil, at least around my area.

When I check a possible B to jump, I check the security, and if I think he is maybe cool with extreme sports, I go there and ask him to jump the B.

For sure not the company who owes it, but the security gards, and let me tell, I have 60% OK's.

When the security is not OK with it, I ask the B company, I have 30% OK on this one....

The same happens with mobile phone antenas, we have a plenty of them around the country, everything low, 180-250ft, but you just need to find one with a good landing and ask the security....

For sure the companies won't let me jump.....Unsure

And I don't jump when I ask (B or A) and get a NO, just to show some respect.....

PM me your e-mail and I can send you some cool videos.....

For E's and S's, just go there and jump Cool

I think you're asking the wrong questions. There's a right way to do it and a wrong way, I think you've investigated the wrong way (IMO rule#1 is you can rarely ever say what you're really up to, unfortunately, unless they're really understanding people). Think of rephrasing your line of questioning to be inconspicuous rather than conspicuous. Kinda like camouflage for questioning; it's gotta look like something else.
