Who out there has done a first jump course with CR/BR/Vertigo etc? Did you buy a rig with them at the same time? What was the course like?

I did a FJC at the Perrine with Morpheus Technologies (see-www.baserigs.com) Great course and instructors at a very reasonable price.

I learned packing, exit body position, site evaluation... all the FJC info. I also bought a rig from them and they have been a great source of knowledge and resource for all my base questions.

What if you don't want to buy a complete rig from whoever you do the FJC through? Would the FJC people be happy to help you assemble a competitor's rig and teach you to pack that rig? I know the convenient thing would be just to buy a complete rig from whoever you do the FJC through (probably with some discount as well).

Well that's what I was wondering. What if the best fjc isn't run by the best gear manufacturer? Or the best rig has a container from one place and a canopy from somewhere else?

I can only go by what I've read & seen, which is admittedly very little.

Most, if not all, FJCs will have rental gear available for you to use. So you don't need to have your own rig to take it.

When I was at Bridge Day I was sort of observing the interaction of people from the various manufacturers and it seemed very cordial & cooperative. I'm fairly certain they would show you how to set up your own rig regardless of who made it.

And regardless, doing so would just be good business. If you help the person and don't give them flak about the gear they own (unless it's non-BASE equipment or otherwise in horrible shape) that person is more likely to become a customer in the future.

Sure, if you are happy to go in August/September next year (will make motels, car hire cheaper). Maybe a two week road-trip?

I did a FJC with CR but bought vertigo kit. CR were helpful in checking that i had rigged it up properly, they taught me to pack on it and also had no problem with letting me jump it. The advantage of buying CR kit and doing the CR course is that they offer discount off the kit (well they did when i did the course anyway.
