Oh my!!! My first two jumps!!!
still can't find the words to describe my feelings... I just came back from my first two BASE jumps!
I spent Friday afternoon with my mentor, whose name I promise no to disclose publically, packing, watching videos, and talking about malfunctions, evasive maneuvers and such.
Well this morning we drove to this 360' antenna about 2 hours from the city.
The winds were OK so we went up. My first jump was a PCA. I don't remember much but I was told I did a great job. Once the canopy opened I flew the pattern and made a nice landings. The canopy ride reminded me when I was under student canopies but everything happened so fast!
Then he helped me pack and we decided to go up again. By now it was more windy. Once on top he asked me if I wanted to go hand-held because the winds were still OK. I said OK. This time the jump is more vivid in my memory and I got a little nervous in freefall because it seemed to take forever for the canopy to open and the ground was coming in fast! Finally the canopy opened and I flew the same patter but I was closer to the ground. Everything went fine but I felt very overwhelmed.
Then my mentor did something I have never seen before, a tard-over. I heard about it but never seen it. I thought it was insane.
Anyway, tomorrow if the weather cooperates we are off a 440 antenna where if I do two successful hand held jumps I'll be graduating to going stowed!
This so far beats skydiving hands down!!!
