I know I had a blast that day. It was definitely one of the highlights of my vacation.

Both of those chicks are absolutely amazing.

Jimmy, I got a call from my dad about the threatening letters you sent to my family...please stop. Right after that I got a call that one of my best friends was killed practicing for an airshow today...same age as me...this goes for all of us, there are way more important things in life to worry about than getting worked up over drama. I'm sorry for bringing it up, what's done is done and I don't have control over Jimmy or Clair's decisions. I will request that the other thread be deleted.

I wonder what the local Phoenix crew thinks about a minor with presumably no skydiving experience and presumably limited BASE experience jumping one of their "regular" objects? A rather technical object, that has been know to eat people and canopies...

This appears a bit irresponsible! A 17 year old child lacks the cognitive awareness and function to make informed decisions about such risky behavior. Have you all considered the legal not to mention moral ramifications, should she go in or get seriously injured?

I cringe everytime I see someone new going out to that cliff.

With all the talk going around about how dangerous Moab is, this object is worse than 90 percent of the jumps out there.

(Of course, in the olden days, some of the old AZ crew did their first jump from this one. Yikes! Now those guys only come out for the really risky jumps. )

There are two standards: legal and ethical.

On the legal side, if you disobey a law--deliberately or by accident--you take your chances with the consequences.

In this case, we have a violation of at least one California law and possibly others:

Cal. Penal Code § 273a (West Supp. 1998)

Jimmy is a legal adult, who is permitted by law to make his own decisions. Clair is a legal incompetent who is not. Clair's parents have the legal responsibility to protect her welfare, but they do not have the legal right to sign away her right to safety. Only Clair can do that--but not until she becomes legally competent to do so.

So you're hanging out there, Jimmy, with potential criminal and civil penalties in the offing if you fuck up and maybe even if you don't.

What a great place to take an inexperienced 17 year old .Lucky she didn't bounce off of that one .

Actually, you have to learn from that experience, and try to help others benefit from that experience.

PS - Just to make my other post more clear, it wasn't about age. Age isn't a measure of skill or prior training. Besides, some of us (me) can't judge. I almost died the first time I jumped that one.
