BASE vs. Freeride
Lately I've learned about a newish type of MT Biking that came about during my absence from the MT Bike world called Freeriding. Its pretty intese stuff, riding off of the edge of cliffs and taking some pretty big drops with bikes that have more suspension travel then my old Yamaha dirt bike.

However, I've seen that Freeriders often call taking a big drop "hucking" and of course my mind wondered to the BASE community. I was kind of curious as to how the BASE community felt in regards to other sports using their terminology and what they felt about something like the Freeriders (if they cared at all).

Then again I was thinking "well, if a freerider was truely taking a big drop, he'd have a rig on..."Laugh

Re: [AggieDave] BASE vs. Freeride
I'm pretty sure the term "huck" originated with skiing, and travelled from there to BASE, so I doubt that BASE jumpers can lay claim to it.

Re: [TomAiello] BASE vs. Freeride
Seeing how the only skiiing I've ever done was behind a boat, I wouldn't know that.Tongue

In Freestyle Motocross, otherwiseknown as FMX, thay actually have a trick called a "Base Jump". It's a combination actualy, something particualr trick in the air, then a no handed landing= a "Base Jump"

I can't recall what the in air trick is, but I've seen it done.
