I got my copy yesterday and i will have to say it took me a day to post... as i am speechless....This movie is unbeleavible.....Its not base jumping....it's mountain flying.... Canyon running..... It's like the dreams i had as a kid and still do of flying...it's unbelievable.... I have not seen something so moving and amazing ....ever....... Un Fucking believable....sorry for the french ...but no other way to explain.......i have watched this 30 or so times ....i loss count and my wife thinks i need a vacation.... Great job guys and look forward to seeing more ....You guys are truly amazing and living life like no other.......I really need to come see this in person....... I am sending more than the $30.00 donation as i think i got more than i ever expected.....

If anyone has not seen this movie ...you have got to get a copy...It is some of the greatest base footage you will ever see.....

That was some of the most incredible BASE footage ever. I got a copy from Tom but can't wait for my 'legit' copy to show up in the mail.

in one of the DVD extras it looks like there is a testing shop where somebody is developing tracking suits... is there a link to more info on those suits?

I would like this info too. A soundtrack this good is not common, which was just one more thing that made the video so beautiful.

I just got a legit copy of it, but it's in PAL. Apparently that's all they printed. None of my DVD players will play it. Anybody got an NTSC version they would trade?

It's true, we only print PAL. Some have asked for NTSC in particular, and have been informed. I'm not sure about the possibilities to transcode a PAL DVD to NTSC. If someone knows about this, please tell me (us). Over here all DVD players play both formats as far as I know. But I understand this might be a problem with some players "over there". Anyway, a PC will play anything, but I understand this is not what your looking forward to when getting the DVD.
There will probably not be printed any NTSC copies, so transcoding from PAL/using a zonefree player/using a PC, are the only options.



No, not yet anyway. This is an ongoing research project, but not with a commercial product launched in the immediate future (maybe never...) Mostly it's done for our own flying pleasure, and your viewing pleasure;)

I am waiting for my copy to arrive and I will try to convert it to NTSC and let you know if I have any success.

Last Thursday we had a climber's slideshow and footage night in a local pub. All in all there were about thirty people showing photos from their 2005 alpine and climbing trips. I had a few of my own mountaineering photos and included three BASE pictures from our local cliff.

I gotta tell ya, after hearing the crowd react to seeing somebody jump their own wall, I suddenly understand a lot better why some of us are such attention whores. It sure gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling when thirty people say: "That is kick ass!"

The force of the dark side is strong... watch for my 2006 video in your local theatre...

Anyway, enough with the personal media-whoring; after everybody had shown their footage and the night transitioned into chatting and drinking beer, I took the opportunity to sneak my copy of Superterminal into the DVD player and show it on the big screen.

I've never heard such a big collective HOLY CRAP from a single crowd. Generally the climbers here have seen plenty of BASE footage already, often through Mountain Film Festivals or other climbing videos. In fact, some of them even yawn when seeing BASE (and rightfully so, compared to some of their big-wall feats). But with Superterminal, the whole bar just fell silent and watched the whole thing beginning to end. Their chins fell on the floor.

Anyway, just a little media-whoring; but I figured the VKB would enjoy hearing they made a smashing impression with the BC climbing community.

By the way; the soundtrack helps a lot too. I'm looking forward to a new wave of BASE movies that looks beyond MTV and Fat Wreckords for their soundtrack.

Edited to add; one of the climbers that helped me scope out a potential terminal wall last summer scolded me for judging it unjumpable. His words: "Dude, the backside we used to climb up that thing is steeper than what these guys are flying down. Certainly the frontside must have been jumpable then!"

Yeah, let me just grab my superduperubertrackingsuit...

WTF? Am I the only one that bought this thing and can't watch it?

I've tried it in 3 DVD players, a Roadstor, a laptop, and a desktop computer. None of my stuff will play this PAL DVD.

Has anyone had any success converting it to NTSC?

If anybody out there can play PAL dvds and has ANY decent NTSC videos (skydiving, base or porn) that they'd trade for my PAL copy of Superterminal please PM me. Thanks.

Try installing VideoLan and playing it on your computer. If that doesn't work, the disc is fucked.

Try to get some software so your pc will play it. My disk doesn't work in any conventional player I've tried. HOwever, my Dell desktop and my friends Sony VAIO laptop both played it fine. It will leave you speechless...

If airfare were cheaper right now I'd be planning to see some of these locations first-hand.

Really breathtaking flights...

Got mine today and it worked great in a cheap dvd player.

I know how to do the conversion from PAL to NTSC, and the other way round, but only with the original files (avi or mpeg), not a complete (encoded) DVD. After that you'd have to re-create the menu etc in an NTSC format. I had to do this with the World Team 2004 DVD to get it playable for Americans. Of course you lose a bit of quality when transcoding but haven't had any complaints about that.
So, transcoding is possible, but a fait bit of work.

Haven't heard of anyone re-encoding a finished DVD, it might be possible but I don't know how to do it.

This is just a guess, so it may or may not work.
Have you tried using a program like DVDSanta or something similar to rip the encoded DVD to a high quality mpg or avi, then re encode it again back to DVD in the normal way to ntsc or whatever format you require ?

Actualy its a while since I looked at DVDSanta, but if memory serves me right, it can do the entire process from PAL DVD to mpg and back to NTSC DVD again. If you dont compress it at all, it will take some time to do the encoding, but you should lose little or nothing quality wise in the conversion.

That might not be the answer, but its worth a look if thats what you need to do.

I dont think dvdsanta would handle the menu, so you would still need to do what you say and recreate the menus in ntsc seperately

But that way you still lose the menu.

If I were to re-encode a DVD I'd want to use the orginal files and not the encoded + ripped ones, since you lose a lot of quality when first encoding the mpeg files, and with the 20% size difference and with the different frame rate between PAL and NTSC, I'd really want the best quality to start with since you're gonna lose some anyway.

But then again, I can play anything here so I'm not looking for a way to do the conversion, for myself.

Ah well, it was just a thought and it might have worked :)
