Bridel length on SL-From Blinc

I like SL jumps,but i hate the long bridel that i can wrap my self into etc etc

therefore i were thinking of making a SL bridel(ie a bridel only meant to be used on SL jumps).

Im jumping the carry on SL and can see the advatagens to get 2 more loops besides the pc loop on the bridel and then im thinking of shorten the bridel down to 4ft.

Its the lenght of the bridel i want oppinions on.

My theory is that a 4 ft bridel ofcourse will open your canopy 5 ft higher(not that it means that much as im no lower than 140ft at this point).
Also the bridel will be in more control.

The pc will still have the pc on ofcoyrse and in case of a premature break were the PC should save my life to a hospital ride to get a bone fix,my idea is that you´ll have no buble as your that close to 0ms as your falling so the pc should catch air anyway.

This discuss has been on ultra low freefalls before,but i want comments on this in a SL weiv.

I did a search in tecnical and found this from back in 99 which i might thing is out of date.

Any oppinions is appritiated.

its not my hard deck just the lowest i jumped so farTongue

I also thourght about making example a knot om my bridel so i dont need to change bridel but im for varius reassons dont like that idea.

what if you s folded the bridal to your desired length and contained it with a tan elztic rubber band that should just let go with any tension. have fun.

Because the idea is to remove the extra length from the bridle. If you s-fold it and jump, the bridle pays out as you fall away and you still have the extra length of the bridle.

I've often thought about making a short bridle for low Sl jumps. My thoughts are this:

The shorter bridle is okay if the object is clean or overhung. The shorter bridle means that the canopy is closer to the object when you reach linestretch.

If the object is a smooth water tank, or something where this isn't a concern, it should be okay.

If the object is underhung or has potential snagpoints, you need the (couple feet) of clearance the full length bridle gives you.

I don't really like the idea of my canopy's tail scraping down the side of the object while I'm falling. On a low bridge or something of that nature, I don't see a real problem with it. I'd still put a large PC on the bridle though.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

From my read on Fabers post is that he is looking for a shorter bridal to accomplish bridal control PRE-jump, post setup of SL. not to gain 5 feet in altitude. the s fold rubberband idea would accomplish this IMO. plus without the re rigging of a bridle setup, is a lot easier.

In my limited experience, for low, vertical objects -- even with a gnarly-looking ladder that seems poised to jump out and grab your canopy and/or pilot chute -- jumping away from the object is a much bigger problem than the snag potential. Horizontal speed on opening equals oscillations under canopy.

I think you probably know that. Still, I feel compelled to point out that if the object is low, a hearty push away might not be as grand an idea as it seems at the exit point.

You know, hypothetically speaking. 'Cause a friend of mine... Nevermind.

I totally agree. But the difference between stepping off with a full length bridle and having your packjob totally stay where you were just standing, I think, could make a difference.

Bounding away from the exit point will definitely increase the pendulum effect under canopy. But if I can't make sure the canopy is going to clear the object, maybe it's time for me to go have a beer and re-think the jump.

With a light step off the exit point, you will have a couple feet of separation between the canopy and the object once at bridle stretch.

If that bridle is only three feet from the anchor to the pins, the packjob will basically be sitting on the object when you hit linestretch and the canopy starts to move. That's the part I'm not sure about.

cheers guys(look at Blinc aswell)

At this point im rigging up my bridel by a rubberband.
I find myself concerned if that Bulk twist arround it self or the pc as im moving arround(or even come loose as i climb over the exit point-nightmare as im often solo)

About the jumping out/ step out im only going to step out if its a overhung or other bridge were i cant snag my canopy,other vise i jump as usual as if/when i get that pendulium i can stil fly the canopy.
140-150ft is still a altitude(if you SL) were you still have time to get your toogles and do a smmoth landing(i jumped 150ft 2 days ago and made a 90 to my left and landed.But you´ll need to fly deep brakes ofcourse..

As im on my SL jumps sets my brakes more shallow than i usaly do on slider off,i gain more forward speed/flying canopy faster whith out too much surge.I can even land on my rear riser if needed as the canopy aint at its stall point yet..
