OK, Ill admit after I watched it on Skydivingmovies.com I was inpressed, BUT I had to wonder..."Hmmm what is that kinda press doing for the general preception of BASE?" Though the footage was excellent, and the aerials were awesome to watch, in my opinion the gross negligence in letting the dirtbike just impact the cliff was, well to say the least, disappointing. I know some NPS official somewhere is saying..."Yeah...I want THAT kinda of behavior in my parks..."
Any ideas and or comments?

That looks like a lot of fun. Not all that spectacular since every dirtbiking base jumper can do it. All you need is a throwaway-bike. Should have had better camerawork for the first jump though. Due to the shade you couldn't see very much. AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO HELMET CAM???

Nothing new here. Carl Boenish walked off El Cap using stilts and another person did it with a pogo stick. (Both the stilts and pogo stick were tethered to the cliff top and retrieved.)

Jake Lombard rode a bicycle off Angel falls and Jon Carter rode a motorcycle off Greenie (in both those cases the vehicles were allowed to go in).

I think in both the latter cases it was lame . . .

Lombard especially seemed to do everything he could to get on TV. His most laughable stunt was being catapulted off the New River Gorge Bridge as a slow moving AN-2 (the big Russian bi-plane) came by towing a large net in which he tried to grab onto.

He missed the net and parachuted into the river below. The breathless TV announcer made a very big deal out of it (and so did Lombard) without anyone mentioning the hundreds of people who jumped from the bridge every year at Bridge Day. I happened to see that with a few other BASE jumpers and we were rolling on the floor in tears of laughter.

No, the "look at me" glory hounds of today have nothing on the ones from yesteryear . . .

Dave Barlia did a motorcycle jump in the desert several years ago. It was for some TV production or other. He had the crew spread several hundred yards worth of tarp below the exit to catch every bit of the bike, including the fluids. That's the kind of example I think we all ought to be looking to.

Alain Prieur (french stuntman) did a motorcycle jump in some canyon in south east of France with a parachute in 1984. Jacques Malnuit (aka Zoo) did a similar stunt for a Bond production in 1996 (Goldeneye).

Rob Fry did a very cool front flip on a push bike off a cliff in oz,

there is a few of his jumps on the ABA dvd's

Cool thing about the front flip was how the bike was still in front of him, so ya can see his hand reach out grab the bike and try and throw it away, the bike got tangled in the chute so landed right next to him, I always laugh when I see the wheel on the bike lol.

There is at least two bikes smashed into the cliff face. Two in the video and probably at least a few others in getting the shots the film crew wanted.

I think it very much depends on who you are.
As a non celebrity, most people who attempted this and let the bike go in like that would be made some kind of example of if caught, and generate mostly bad press.

However if Travis the 'All American Kid Hero celebrity' wants to do it the local authorities would be far more accommodating due to the amount of hard cash that he generates.

Just to be perfectly clear I was talking about This Video in which (as stated above) at least two dirtbikes were allowed to impact the face of the cliff at high speed, thus damaging the canyon.

couldnt you just go pick up the bicycle? granted it would be a twisted mess, but how much damage can bike(non motorized...) vs. rock produce?

i ask this because this is an exit i would love to do next time in moab....

B.J. Worth did that stunt. I know that for sure. Was he being helped by Malnuit?

Finding it was the problem. It looks to be mostly dense trees and such below Angel Falls.

Perhaps there were multiple takes, or multiple jumpers?

No disrespect to BJ Worth, who is rightfully a legend in skydiving, but Zoo is one of the world's most experienced BASE jumpers, and if I were looking for someone to make a stunt BASE jump, I'd probably pick him first.

Thanks for posting this. I recently saw this on TV whilst sitting around the house on a Sunday, and was unimpressed and quite bothered by it to tell you the truth. First and foremost, I love the Utah desert for it's exceptionally good crack and face climbing. When I climb there I have even gone as far as using redish colored chalk on my hands to minimize any unsightly traces of my presence. Although I repsect Travis' ability to ride a motorcycle (how could you not be), I hope he doesn't consider that a legitimate BASE jump. Nor do I see this as a difficult stunt, that reflects upon his true ability. For the record I don't know much about Travis' level of experience in BASE. I am presuming it is limited, but for all I know he could have bunch under his belt. I guess I am most bothered by the fact that there will now be all these motocross kids wanting to repeat this act while referring to it as a legitimate BASE jump.

Hm, I'm pretty sure Zoo did that one and I can only support what Tom is saying about him. There were multiple takes, quite many actually, but Zoo never told me about multiple jumpers.
But hey, who cares anyhow?
