Up in the bonfire Skymama reports John Agnos will be on ABC's Good Morning American today (Tuesday). The show starts on the west coast at 7:00 AM.

Skymama didn't otherwise comment on his appearance, but I'll venture it's going to have us all upchucking our Cheerios . . .

Aw shit... that is pretty messed up.

Well, that could have been worse. They didn't overly identify the site and they didn't bring John into the studio. It was pretty much a replay of the angle we already saw on the local news.

He did say he's quitting BASE jumping, and for his sake (two accidents in as many weeks) and ours, I'm okay with that . . .

I'm a firm believer that the worst offenders among us can be rehabilitated, as sometimes it's they don’t know any better early in their BASE careers, but it's been said John's been at it for eleven years, and if that's true, he does know and just doesn't care. That's a much harder thing to fix . . .

John Agnos Sr. said his son is a veteran sky diver and just started BASE jumping last year. While the father respects his son's love of the sport, it's trying for him. "I just don't like it," he said.

Where is this quote from?

If he started a year ago, that means his first jump was the solo B on which he was injured. Then he was here doing his "come back" jumps Labor Day. Which makes me skeptical that his experience is really the 80-100 jumps quoted in the other thread.

Something doesn't add up, but I'm not sure which of these parts is correct and which is not.

I'm inclined to believe that the less experienced number would be correct.

I've now gotten it on fairly good authority that John has been jumping for just under 2 years (since December 2003), with his major accident in October 2004 sidelining him for 11 months. That means he'd have jumped around 80 times in that first year, which sounds pretty reasonable.

This story was on Inside Edition last night. They played the tape when he was hanging on the wire while talking on his cell phone with the authorities. He was definitely scared.

Right now (Wednesday morning) CNN is reporting a large rescue effort for a woman stuck on a cliff (a non-jumping event) in Hartford, CT. No one is saying this woman needs a new hobby or should learn a lesson. Is the difference between smart and stupid merely one of legality?

Tell that to Rosa Parks or Jan (the BASE one) Davis . . .
