Highest about point of impact, highest above landing area or highest above sea-level?


What kind of jump? Freefall, PCA, static-line, D-bag or unpacked (which to some people isn't a BASE jump anymore). Over water or over hard ground? It's a big difference.


But a lot more room than the guy taking a wingsuit off a really high exit point where he barely clears a little ledge.

Sorry for being pedantic. I do think you asked a great question, if only because it demonstrates that numbers rarely mean anything in BASE.

I believe the highest was a cliff on acid, but could've also been a bridge on mushrooms. I'm not quite sure how to compare apples and oranges here since blow probably doesn't count 'coz we would never ever do it.

The lowest must have been an anal orgy with a virgin underage female base student i promised to marry but dumped at a lousy freestander instead.

Highest - (Italian Terminal Wall) The sign at the top says it is 1500 meters but have no idea if that is to the LZ or above sea level. Anyone know?

at the time this was the 2nd highest object in Australia

I believe that is above sea level. It is 1200 m above LZ.

Freefall or S/L? A couple of the locals here static lined a 111' span over hard ground a few years ago. Repeatedly. Total time from exit to landing sat somewhere near 3 seconds, and the canopy was almost flying when they hit the ground.

You know it's low when the second guy (hardcore by anybody's standards) says to the first, "I'm just going to watch to see how yours goes before I make my decision; I've got a trip to Malaysia coming up and can't afford to break my legs." And you know the first guy is hardcore when he jumps after the "break my legs" discussion.

More generally, asking about lowest jumps opens a can of worms that can only lead to lots of video of similarly low jumps (because certainly they've been done) and stories about rocket-deployed mains and (as above) freefalls done from couches, roofs, etc.

O is Other. It is used when the object does not fall within the BASE classification. A smokestack for example is not a building nor an antenna.... it would be an O

I agree - what specifically are you asking?

For me:

Highest relative altitude exit to landing with a significant freefall = 5700ft.
Highest relative altitude exit to landing without a significant freefall (s/l) = about 9500ft.
Lowest with a packed canopy = 98 ft.

Note that my definition of what is lowest has to include the proviso that you would more than likely die if

you jumped without a parachute. Otherwise the answer for lowest IS ZERO, and the competition is over.

That is unless of course you made the "highest" jump aftre the mushrooms and then had a real bad experience

coming off the high. As they say, no matter how bad you think things in your life are, there is always

someone who is lower than you.

No kidding! As poorly as many guys use the word pussy, you'd think the majority of them were into other guys and hated the pussy. How sad.

It was a very short canopy ride. If you know the way old unvented FOX canopies inflate, then you can imagine. It was over water, but I basically had time to reach up for the toggles and then I was wet.

This jump was pretty early in my BASE career, so my ability to analyze the jump was limited. I knew that it scared me and that I was content with that one jump there.

I did go back later with some friends to look at it (I left out the part about having already jumped it because I didn't want that to factor into their decision making process) and they elected to not jump. There was a jet of water (that wasn't there when I jumped it) exiting the base of the dam, shooting across the landing pool, so the landing area was basically cut in half.

I don't think jumping it at the time was a good idea, and I probably wouldn't jump it again, but it's a memory I have if nothing else.
