Cargo Round
Anyone have a 5’-6’ diameter round I can borrow or might know a good place to pick one up decently cheap? See here for the reason why.
I’ve looked at several surplus stores in my area and haven’t been able to find one. I did find a round canopy type thing. I was told it is mostly used as a boat anchor. It looks exactly like a round parachute but the only difference is it’s made out of a strange material. It just may be a little too porous. Anybody know what the hell this “boat anchor” thing is?
I’ve thought about asking someone to build a 5’-6’ diameter PC for me. Any reason why this wouldn’t be a good idea? Why use a proper round with lines instead of just a PC with no lines but mesh and a bridle instead?

There's a rigger in town (Bill Lee) who has all kinds of stuff. I'll ask him if he has anything like that.

They also sell very large cargo parachutes. One of them has a 154 foot diameter and weights 390 pounds! Seems perfect for a PCA off the Perrine!

A big PC would work fine. Todd ought to be able to whip up a 72" PC for you in short order.

Did you try google and ebay? I don't have time to dig around right now, but I'd think you could find something online.

The boat anchor is conveniently called a para-anchor.
They are used most typically used in very heavy weather such as a hurricane and are used to slow the boat to a controll

A Para-anchor is used to ride out storms at sea. It can keep the bow of a boat into the wind, or slightly off the wind, in heavy seas. Generally they are heavy and bulky and probably not suitable for chair recovery . . .

In reply to:
one the size you are looking for would cost approximately $800.00.

I actually bought the para-anchor at the surplus store. It's about 6' in diameter and I paid $10 for it. I figured I was there and it was cheap so what the hell.

I haven't looked on ebay yet.
I'm thinking about just having a big PC made. Nice and simple.

Thanks for all the info though!

Thanks everybody for all the help!

I've found a nice round for the wheelchair. Betty from High Energy Sports was kind enough to give me a 50 sq. ft. round to use for this jump.
