I got the following email a few days ago and thought that everyone should be aware of this incident.

I wanted to give you a quick line because I know you are busy with the upcoming bridge day event. I'm from South Carolina. I want to let you know about a local to you from [WV] who was tragically killed in a Chinook helicopter crash Tuesday in Afghanistan. Jeff Taylor has been hucking for the last three years and missed the last two bridge day events due to deployments with the Navy Seals. Jeff was a Seal Team leader and was married just days before he left for Afghanistan. Jeff loved the [Fayetteville] area, and was loyal to the sport. He thought highly of you, and looked forward to his first Bridge Day this year. Unfortunately that won't happen, and I ask you keep him and his family in your thoughts.

Jeff and his team were responding to reinforce a group under fire and was shot down by an unguided rocket. It took over a day to get to the area due to the insurgents fighting in the area and would not leave for the recovery effort to begin. He was identified today.

Fly free brother, I miss you already.

Last week there was a great memorial and funeral for all the folks that perished in that crash and surrounding fighting. That memorial was one of the greatest I have been to. Jeff left a lot of people behind as well as the others. Jeff loved to BASE and everyone around him knew it. He stayed with me when I got hurt and he did things like that a lot for everyone he knew. Later on bro.....M

Thank you Jeff, may your courage and honor outshine your greatest feat. I thank you for all that I have, and will ever have. A HERO.

Jeff probably should've died a couple times BASE jumping, but instead in something shitty called afCRAPistan. He was a kick-ass dude. he'll definitely be missed, but more importantly... remembered.

Last year Easter, Renee, Ferry and I got very drunk with an American called Jeff at the Horner. Didn't catch his last name. He was some kind of combat medic specialist, based in Germany at the time. Short, stocky well built guy. Jumped yellow with him.

Now I am really sorry that his holiday got cut short, was looking forward to more jumps and beers with him one day. He was a good bloke.
