Line Mod
Are there any disadvantages to routing your brake lines through the guide rings on a slider down PCA jump? (aside from the obvious inablilty to clear a line over...)

Aside from the obvious...

Be sure you have adjusted the toggles correctly for the line length. If your toggles are set for slider off, your control lines are going to (effectively) be too short when routed through the rings.

And, of course, be sure to use a tailgate (I hope that sounds obvious to the point of trite).

Re: [chadkal] Line Mod
205ft Span, Velcro rig, Dagger 266, PCA, slider down, tailgate, line mod.
On opening, the right toggle wasn't there. Flew and landed with rear risers.
I was wondering what considerations there might be to routing the brake lines inside the guide rings. With the tailgate(hopefully) preventing line-overs, would this be advisable? Specifically, are there any packing or opening anomalies to consider with this setup?
Any insightful thoughts?
Thanks,
Steve Babin

Re: [stevebabin] Line Mod
I'm currently working on an idea to solve this problem. It should be done (hopefully) in a month or so. Afterwards which I'll be sending the final product to Tom for some test jumps. If he's willing to still do it that is. Tom...?

Crazy

You just want to stow the toggles so you can open your beer Wink

Re: [stevebabin] Line Mod
i would say its a bad idea...

Having a lineover on a Lowish PCA jump is lower than i want a line over that i cant just pop...

Practice in landing on rear riser,i did after a broken fib n tib it can happenTongue

Russell, start a new thread with pics of what you are working on.

No pics available yet. Apex is busy building the new risers for me. I will post all about it at a later date.

Re: [cornishe] Line Mod
I do have WLO toggles on this rig. It did not feel like I would have enough altitude to jettison a brake line after opening (on this jump).
Thanks for the input, though.

Re: [stevebabin] Line Mod
It is true that you would not loose a toggle on opening, but if you have a lineover you will have to land it. It might or might not work out landing a lineover. It becomes much more difficult to pick your landing area and get a safe landing. On this particular jump there is barely enough time to unstow , turn and land without vents, when everything works right. A lineover might put you in the trees, thorns ,or creek.
My point is that even if you maintain your toggle, by packing through the guide ring and slider, you are still going to give up a little time identifying the problem and locating you toggle, which might still put you in the small trees. I vote for line mod on this particular jump,as there is DEFINITELY not enough time to use WLO release on this jump. So you can roll the dice on not getting a line over on this jump if you decide to pack through the rings/slider. The chance of line over is slim on this type of jump, but still a definite possibility. I just like the idea of being able to clear a mal, because if I were the person deciding to pack through the slider/ guide ring, I would be the one in ten thousand with the line over
