train gunk
I was wondering if anyone could tell me a good way to get that tar crap that you find on railroad tracks off of a canopy. I recall an earlier post about it but can't seem to find it. Can someone help me out?

Man you are kinda Hosed
We got some tracks we land on up here at the bottom of a cliff.
Creosote/ Oil wood Preservative off the Track Ties is on my pilot Chute and some of my Canopies Forever.
I have been more scared of using any kind of Solvents on Nylon than the creosote though.
It is know preserving my Equipment and giving it that well used look.
A couple years go by and it will just blend in with all the other dirt...Wink

So although it won't come off, it (most likely) won't alter opening/flight performance? I think I may be overly paranoid about this. thanks for the reply.

Re: [tommyh] train gunk
Jason Bell used to have a "hints and tips" on his web site that listed some kind of cleaner that could do it. I'm not sure if it made it through the latest update, but if not you might ask Jason if he can dig it up.

A rigger once told me that zippo lighter fluid works well to clean small spots and will not damage the canopy. I have not tried it but I know he has used it several times, he actualy keeps the stuff in his shop for just that purpose.

"Carbo-sol" which is made by the Sunnyside Corp of Wheeling, Illinois.

You could try (If u dare) so called Medical petrol (Benzinum Medicinale ACL). I've used it with some sucess. No harm done to the material.

Not sure what it's called in english though. You should be able to find it in a drug store.

Re: [SwePercy] train gunk
My father owns a carpet cleaning business and he has a cleaner that is used on silks and other fine woven cloth to remove tar and oil stuff. If anyone is interested in this, let me know. I will mail 1 bottle to the first 2 people that e-mail me. I have used this many times on other folks rigs to get grass stains out. My e-mail is meridianjumper@gmail.com
