I saw a post by a Norwegian guy on a website that complained they pick up the bill (as in it's their tax money going for mountain rescue etc) for people jumping Kjerag etc. Is this true? I was just curious so i thought i would ask you guys to see if this was the case.

PS he isn't a jumper.

im insured inside Europe for damegede to my body that will set down my mobility(abel to work or move other than today)above 5%,it dosnt cover medical bills,rescues or if i were drunk/doped as i jumped.
They dont care if its a legal jump or not.

I've contacted a few insurance companies in my place and that's pretty much the same thing. I've found nothing that covers rescue and medical expenses.

I got insurance through the local rescue service once. They said it was good for a year but I couldn't stand the wait and used it right away.

Basehoundsam turned me onto this company, got insured for a BASE trip to Mexico, includes 'hazardous sports' coverage, specifically parachuting.....Not sure about getting coverage in my homeland, doubtful as most sites are not of the leagal type....

I've had my medical insurance cover bills from outside the country (Italy, specifically). I'm not sure how much they'd cover, since the Italian government picked up most of the cost without being asked. I also know of 2 cases where US insurance companies paid out on injuries in Southeast Asia.

I suspect it's much harder to get insurance in countries that have socialized medicine than those where health insurance is the order of the day.

I have used Specialty Risk on a couple trips outside the U.S. myself. For the peace of mind, I think their rates are pretty reasonable.

by the way as soon as im in DK the goverment pays most of the medical bills anyway

No wonder Denmark can afford this considering that it is in the Guinness Book of Records as a country with the highest income tax - highest rate of personal income tax: 62.9%, basic rate of personal income tax starting at 43.7% (June 2003).

yeah but thats old,having a medium income i now only pays 41% as basic rate

PS i rather pay that much knowing that i dont need to care about medical treatment in europe,most of my medical bills are payed(if you need more medical help than 5xxdkr/100$),i have freeroads(besides 1 bridge),free education and so on.. yeah i like it...(but it does sucks some times but genneral i dont find a better place)

Let's not turn this into a discussion of taxes and government services. I'd prefer to avoid splitting parts of this thread off and sending them into the pit we know as Speaker's Corner.

Ive seen specialtyrisk mentioned a few times in this forum and the UK base forum. does anybody have any info on how they are if/when a claim is made? really its the only time you find out of your insurance is worth anything

I've never used either, but have known of a couple individuals who did use Air Ambulance without complaints; one was evacuated from the Himalayas while high-altitude climbing and another from northeast Kazakhstan.
