so, there's a post in bonfire (I won't link it) that is getting a LOT of attention

I think it should just be deleted and any attempt to repost too, followed by a warning, then a banning if the offender/s persist.

The kind of post that shows BASE objects getting dayblazed and giving details of their whereabouts should not be tolerated.

Let's make our voices heard and give the moderators and HH the mandate to deal with this kind of nonsense effectively.

Once it moves off the first page of the Bonfire (sometime this evening, I'd guess), it's probably better to just let it fade away.

The truth is that there are other issues (DZ.com community building, for example) that play into that kind of thing.

Anyway......yeah....I was REALLY suprised that the post wasn't gone LONG ago. Especially after some of the conversations that went on when I met TomAiello the other night. Just seems like a really STUPID thing to have around here.

This Forum is meant to further our enjoyment of the sport not damage it,this forum is not a free of censorship if it was their wouldn't be a need for "NSFW" tags and you could post pictures of people Fucking sheep if you so chose to as well as any number of things our society (and society as a whole) deem un fit.
The argument of The Jump in question not being illegal there for OK to post seems mistaken,in some parts of the world child pornography isn't necessarily "Illegal" and in the country most free from censorship it is illegal to view, because society agrees it shouldn't be shown.
I don't believe the exploitation of our objects is fit for a public forum.

I can't believe I politely stepped in yesterday to share my concern, and was slammed (with a reference to Tom Aiello) by someone who probably doesn't know any better.

Honestly, the way that you (and some others) were slammed was the thing that most aroused my concern.

Unfortunately, I've just set myself up to have to patrol yet another forum. I'm going to try to take out specific site references, but leave the thread intact, as I think it's valuable reading for skydivers who may not get into this forum, and hence don't have any understanding of BASE culture.

I've appreciated the way that folks haven't let it degenerate into yelling at the skydivers. Many thanks to all for that.

I voted yes, and I don't BASE. However, you have to be mighty careful when deleting posts in another forum. Bonfire is an area where people talk to their friends about random shit and they wouldn't necessarily immediately understand if posts about BASE jumps started getting deleted. Education is needed first, so folk understand why deletions happen.

Tom: you might ask HH to set up an email notification for you if the word BASE appears in a forum other than The BASE Zone. Despite the unavoidable false positives, it should make patrolling other forums much easier for you.

While it's nice to know about these things, I believe for the greater good knowledge is better kept hidden. Educating the "enemy" is not a necessary task. So yeah, i voted for deletion.

no BASE jumps yet, but that post and the discussion ongoing isnt doing anyone any real favors, beyond some basic education for 'wuffos' about ethics and legality...

No BASE jumps, and did not vote. I'd go half way, much as Tom did. Delete everything that's BS and could be harmful (faces, names, sites, etc...), but otherwise let it go.

Agreed. I haven't BASE'd yet, but then it isn't a requirement for having common sense either.

Burning sites is just uncool.

I currently have a notification for classified ads including the word "BASE". The false positive rate is around 50%. I think I'd end up reading a lot of unrelated posts.

My best warning system so far has been other people PMing me.
