This rule rocks! I might post more in a few days. Remember, hospitality counts!

Re: [leroydb] Call the local rule
Speaking of... what defines the local? Here we have people who have been jumping for years before us, but we have opened up a few sites of our own. They have their sites which we haven't jumped. One account also, there is a site that hasn't been jumped in a long while, we are working on re-openeing it. So is the "local" the jumpers who are around the longest, or does it go by sites? Random thought Tongue

Re: [Rauk] Call the local rule
One would think it would overall go by sites. But this might change as BASE becomes more popular/ mainstream...

In theory, you ought to at least be able to live together well enough that an out of towner could call either of you...

In theory, anyway.

Re: [TomAiello] Call the local rule
I see your point. I would just imagine there to be places where the two (or more) crews wouldn't communicate even when common sense suggests.

The thing is Tom, the older Crew isn't all that open to jumping with newbies (I'm not sure how they feel about out of towners) whereas I've seen it with my own eyes, the new crew invites people to come visit them and jump their sites. Mother Nature doesn't always cooperate though.

Please note the bolded portion of my original post.

I'm aware that there are places where this system isn't currently working so well. I'm not sure what happens to replace it, or where we are all going with this.

I guess we all find out together.

Re: [Rauk] Call the local rule
Hey Rauk ...

I was in a certain city north of the border this weekend and I checked out one massive A up close and numerous tasty downtown Bs. Of course I would want to speak to the locals first to get any insight to compare what I've seen and what they know before I went and blazed their possible sites (it's not their site though if they don't jump it right?). I've met one of these locals I speak of in potato land and have his number and I know one of the other locals does occasionally post here as I've exchanged PMs with him and downloaded a video of him (and the other local I speak of) doing a very tasty 900 foot E. And on top of that I got some info from a whuffo on the airplane back to Denver today concerning a 300 foot S south of the major city. Yes the whuffo doesn't jump, but he gave me enough info on this S to feel encouraged. Hmmm ... maybe my native land (where I still own a house, but don't live) isn't as bad a place for BASE as I thought. If one plays theirs cards right, one could do all 4 object types (plus throw in an O object) all within 24 hours and no more than 5 hours of driving from all object types. Hmmm ... maybe we should do a road trip in the not too distant future ... after consulting the locals of course. You don't have any outstanding warrants north of the border do you? Wink

Re: [leroydb] Call the local rule
What about when someone takes the time and energy to open a site, makes the first jumps there and jumps there for years without any problems. Then they are nice enough to show the new people who have started and live much closer to these sites and they procede to blaze away without any disregard for the fact that others may enjoy these sites too, but can only manage to jump there a few time a year. These new locals simply because they are closer ruin it for the locals who a few years ago had these sites to theirselves. What's the protocol then??

PS I liked your comment about all your jumps being 99percent at night LERoy, maybe if you opened your eyes you might see the daylight, that is shinning all around youTongue

Be careful. Folks can be a might touchy about things in their town. Best to always talk to them first, even if you think they're not jumping it. They might be at the end of a 3 year negotiation, just about to open up a legal BASE event, and you might blaze through and jump the site, shutting down all their hard work.

How do I know this? I did it when I had about 15 jumps.

edit to add: I mention this partly because it happened awful close to a city North of the Border with a very large A.

Yup... The 'locals' will be in the area, you're 3 hours away. If you can make the trek, we'll be around with our usual objects. PM sent.

Re: [CanuckInUSA] Call the local rule
I actually wondered this when I did my first "B". I didn't call any locals, mainly because I was pretty sure nobody had jumped the site, considering it was surrounded by MUCH taller "B"s under construction and this was just under 300'. I always wondered though. Hey anyone in Miami want a nice 290' Christmas present?

Re: [Rauk] Call the local rule
If there's no winds at the site, you can ship it to us in Seattle.

I don't think 515 was trying to start a fight, I think he is only trying to show people that LERoy will say anything and do anything to make himself look better in the eyes of whoever he is talking to. Case in point: LERoy said 99% of his jumps are at night but we have all seen his 2way educational day blazing video. Now I'm guessing he doesn't have over 100 jumps at night to make up for this one day jump do you??
I don't think people that flat out lie should be able to get away with it without some sort of confrontation. I think it's only fair to allow some sort of rebuttal to contradict the false statements, otherwise everyone will start to fudge their logbooks and stories. Then you will not be able to believe anyone.
Today, I really don't think anyone jumps 99% at night, it's too scary!!!.

funny i think the day jumps are more scary were you really can get an impression of how close the ground rush towards you..
But night jumps often is the coolest objects to jumpCool

LOL ... to date only 5% of my jumps have been made at what some would call night. Shit one of them was done at dawn, one was done at dusk and only one of them was done in the middle of the night. All of my other 54 jumps are day time jumps. But don't forget where I've jumped. 43 jumps at the legal span in potatoville (all day time jumps except one of the pretty darn dark dusk jump and my one true night time jump), 13 jumps in Moab (all day time jumps) and my one local Antenna jump (made at dawn). So does that make me bad? Nope. Does that make me experienced? Nope. But they are what they are. Shocked

No wind when I jumped it, but it is on the beach, so the ocean winds can cause some trouble. Radix is on the way, BTW, you will love it!

Legal bridge jumps are nice, but IMHO things are different when you are standing on an urban object at 3AM and physical exhaustion, fear of getting bust and sleep deprivation are fucking with your head.

Re: [Rauk] Call the local rule
Ill show you mine, if you show me yours.

edit to add: not to worry, because at that time you did it, there were no locals in MIA, now there are 2.

I look forward to that opportunity. It just hasn't happened yet for several reasons. I know the exhaustion part though as I have ground crewed for a few friends doing these bandit middle of the night jumps.

yeah, but I can't decide if the exhaustion comes from the elevator ride, or those two flights of stairs.

Hi
really?
I have no idea who you got hold of, but most everyone in our crew is really friendly.
As Tom says, the main guy here is not back in jumping shape yet, but there are many other locals in the area.
Let me know next time you're in the area! Smile

Putting egos a side I believe communication between The "A Team", The "B Team", The "C Team" ETC Its very imporntat

And guess what the next Crew which is around the corner will act like jackasses But we still need to talk to each other

Next thing you know we all be calling the MAN or SMOKY THE BEAR on each other

Wow i'm impress the check spelling thing is said that i only mispell two word before i wrote the last sentenceSly

i am really trying to not let the poking get to me...

Yes I have made mistakes Jason, but I have learned form them.

No I dont have 100 night jumps, but I have 50+/- night jumps for what it is worth. Does that make it half as bad? Wink

I don't see where I was lieing. I was just posting that the call the local rule rocks.

I am finding out that there are MANY other BASE jumpers that actually avoid this website. They call it the bitch board. I like it here, I think you can learn from this site, but am about to go all military and be secretitive. I am sure you will approve.

I have never fit in and have never have cared about being in the incrowd. I would be the same person wether I am in the woods or in NYC.

i am sure you will twist this in ur wickid ways.

I havemore thoughts, but will hold back... you can call me if you get the nerve to call me back.

Let me make this clear. I am tired of the fighting on this board. I've screwed up and let it get out of hand, and I regret that. Let's not do that again.

I think we're done here.
