For those who have not heard...

On the 29th of October Jason Fitz-Herbert died while BASE jumping from Bungonia Gorge, NSW, Australia. He was attempting a difficult jump. He waited to pitch until he had achieved a safe orientation for deployment. He had insufficient separation from the wall to clear an underhung section after pitching.

Jason touched the lives of many people and will be sorely missed. His motivation for jumping in recent times had been fuelled by a desire to help improve safety in the sport. He was recently appointed the Director of Safety and Training for the Australian BASE Association. He had mentored numerous students who will now help to keep his memory alive.

Jason also leaves behind his former partner Melissa and their 6 year son, Blake.

My condolences to you and all the people related to Jason, I couldn´t belive the post on ABA, that it was him.

I met him and you in KL this/last year, he was such a cool and calm guy, at least I have known him of that way.

Sad and dark times for you Aussies, but hang on, life keeps going on.

My heart goes out to you, all of Jasons family and friends and the Aussie BASE scene.

Jason was the best guy around!
He was such an open person, willing to teach all that he knew. When i called him and asked him to be my aussie mentor, he just said "great", and he called me up as soon he had some jumping planned, so that i could check out the Aussie BASE sites.
Thanks for bringing me along Jason, thanks for being you, thanks for bringing me down to that waterfall at the GC and make me feel at home even though i was as far away from home as i could. You were out on the outback tour when i did my jump down under, but as we (Coombsey ,Marc and myself) drove to the A, we were talking about how strange it was not having you there as you were "the grandfather of QLD BASE".
You are sorely missed, by all of those who met you...

We will meet again, on the next level.

I liked Jason Fitz alot. He was always nice to me and was an exceptional jumper.
The few times I jumped with you guy's the last couple of years.
I will remember forever.

Unfortunately its not uncommon that you hear someone has passed away in our sport.

Sometimes you think that's sad but it's a part of our sport.

Sometimes you think, "That just doesn't make sense." There's some jumpers you don't imagine will ever die BASE jumping. They're too good, too careful, or too friendly.

I never imagined I would hear that Jason died. I liked him very much and I'm glad we got to share some jumps before he left us.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the OZ community, it's been rough few months.

My condolences to family and friends! Jason was a VERY talented jumper! He did what many cant!

It is very, very uncool to lose a base jumper. It is even more uncool to lose a base jumper doing a memorial jump. Even this has happened before though, May 2000 at Brento in Italy.

I met Jason for the first time in Shanghai this year and yes, he was a very nice guy.

Jason wasn't doing a memorial jump. He didn't believe in the concept of memorial jumps. It was a jump he had been working towards trying for a while. It just happened that the inspiration for the flight down to Sydney that weekend was to attend Slim’s funeral. Josh - Thankyou for posting those images, I look forward to seeing the others you have. Thanks to everyone for the supportive messages and emails.

You are a super strong person. Keep up your positive attitude and good luck with all the BASE stuff (jumps, ABA, posts, etc).

I keep coming back to this thread, and I still can't find the words.

Jason is a great loss to all of us. He was friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. He never failed to bring a smile to my face. He was the only person who's ever had a 180 and object strike after I gave them a 180 (American energy drink) at the exit point. I was looking forward to knowing him for years, and becoming better friends over that time. I will miss him.

Liv, I cannot believe how strong you are. Your concern for others in this situation is amazing, as I believe you are the adult person most impacted by Jason's death. Know that you have friends around the world who care about you, and don't forget to take care of yourself.
