Hey all you kids out in cyberland....

We had our sweet WebMistress in here all day, and she's done an amazing job on our website. There is a new section called Tech News, which addresses topics that are hot today, the gear lists are updated and accurate, and there's news about the BR/Vertigo merger, creating Apex BASE.

We also have photos of the Vertex 2 and the Prism 2, a logo parachute section, and other goodies I'll leave you to find on your own.

I couldn't find most of that stuff.

I just never understood why the BR freefall chart "recommends" a 0-1 second freefall from 200', and shows that velcro rigs are good choices for low stuff, and pin rigs are just fair... Oh well, the whole chart doesn't really make sense the more I look at it, but I understand the difficulty of making such a generic chart...

I would love to freefall 200' with a second delay- over water....

I think a lot has to do with when the chart was made. Not too long ago, pins were scary and expert territory only. BASE is changing and I think that chart is pretty much outdated for anyone but students.

You also have to keep in mind that this is BASE jumping and there can be no chart that will tell you what to do and have it be accurate for all jumps.

I think a better chart would leave out the object height and tell you what pilot chute to use for a given delay and take into consideration the size canopy you're using. Then it will tell you approximately how long (in vertical feet) it will take you to get to linestretch. Where the ground is is pretty irrelevent. If you know you have to be open a certain vertical distance below the exit point to avoid obstacles and make a landing area, the freefall/delay charts are absolutely useless.

I guess the real answer is get out there and jump with an experienced mentor. That's the only way you can really know what to do. (I don't mean you dude.)

i would say that i agree whith BR that i will take less than a sec delay or so sub 200ft...

We made that freefall chart back in the early 90s. So no, it doesn't take into account all the advancements made since.

I created that website, and to say the least it needs updating. But, I don't work there anymore, and I'm sure after all the merger biz is over, the website will get a face lift in content and presentation.

There's a new section called Tech News, in the left pane under the heading Reference.

The pictures of the two new rigs are in their respective pages, Prism 2 and Vertex 2.

There is also a canopy logo section called Custom Logos in the left pane under the Equipment heading.
