Cave base jump
Just seen it on the news, an Austrian guy based a 200mt cave in Croatia
I recorded the item, not shure if it's legal or ethical to post the video

Edit. I got the wrong country

It was a toggle turn for sure. You can clearly see the tail pulled down.

Re: [ManBird] Cave base jump
hello,
Felix is the first.
This cave I wanted to jump together with some friends in spring before Felix, but weather condition during the spring was really shity. Later on I had no time and also was limping Unsure.
Really embarrassing that foreigner comes and do things in our country first but.....
Few things were really hard to organize for me, such is permit for jumping in to the cave, get enough people in to the cave, medic, transport etc...
Approach to the cave is really shitty and there is also some land mine fields too.
As RedBull has no problem to support F.B.- for him this was much easier.
IMHO, cave is not so demanding.
It is big like hell and only thing which may concern me would be the lending, but I am sure that Australian jumpers would say: ''dog shit easy!!''

Well despite all what is going around Mr. F.B. he did nice job.

Stane's new prototype Troll.

This canopy was designed by Stane specifically for certain parameters we needed. It definitely was not a "New Troll Prototype". It was a Hi-lift, lowspeed, low glide ratio piece of art. Nothing like a Troll.
hope this helps.

What?!? They built him a canopy especially for that jump? Now that's support!

Re: [base283] Cave base jump
DK news papers Quote a 7.2sec rid total(from exit to landing) this shitty conection aint good for the vid but looks like he has that time just under canopy or am i wrong??

Hope i can jump such a place one day aswellCool

Re: [base283] Cave base jump
Was the canopy damaged when it came down on the candles marking the landing area?
Shortcut
Re: [Faber] Cave base jump
@ Faber, The 7.2 was under canopy. The media never gets it right.

@ jonege, only one burn, small, 5cm. The candles were actually pointing the way to the target but he came up short.

Stane also had a new prototype/changed Troll at Bridge Day (notably it had a center cell bottom skin inlet valve). Very interesting stuff he's doing there. I suspect it may not be long until Atair joins Apex with multiple specialized airfoils selling for different jumps.

Does anybody know what the de-facto resource (book or online) on canopy theory, mechanics and design is?

I'm particularly interested in learning about the trade-offs and constraints that base manufacturers have to work with and within.

Things like: "if you want more of property X in your canopy, you get less of property Y and Z". Ideally we want to maximize all of X, Y and Z, but because we can't have all at once, we decide which one of those features is most important for a particular jump.

Thanks,

Re: [TomAiello] Cave base jump
hi,
There is more on the way guys.
The new prototype is under intensive test.
The center valve is just one think which is easy to spot.

In short, the new canopy from Atair is designed for the tight landing area and steep approches. (for jumps with slider up and slider down)

As well the other type fo the canopy is under testing for the WS jumps too.

Many new toys are coming soon from Slovenian factories ( canopyes, WS, pants, Wink )

Why Apex? I thought Atair has a good relationship with Morpeous.

What I meant was that Atair/Morpheus would become the second manufacturer to offer multiple canopies for specialized applications (with Apex being the first, with the Rock Dragon and Dagger).

Angelic thanks. I will never be an expert on canopy theory. But I am not afraid of physics, and you gotta read something while taking a crap or riding the bus to work Wink. I could either read the newspaper, or try to pretend I'm reading something more useful.

What canopy that is available today is most like the "new Troll prototype"? (i.e. best in situations where you don't need a lot of glide but want to be able to sink very effectively)

The Rock Dragon perhaps? Or maybe even a vented (not valved) FOX?

Edited to add:

What someone should do (Tom?) is create a matrix that has each canopy listed on the vertical axis, and capabilities listed on the horizontal axis. The way capabilities would be measured would probably have to be relative (and subjective - unless the manufacturers will furnish data on glide ratio, and so on), but it would allow the ever growing number of canopies to be easily compared.

Re: [KidWicked] Cave base jump
Having a canopy designed for a specific style of jump or landing area is great. However I don't think it should replace good canopy piloting. I sat in the landing area at bridge day last weekend. All I can say is wow. Just for example... If you are having problems landing your mojo or fox in a landing area like we have at bridge day. You don't need to run out and by a new canopy designed for tight landing areas. You need to hit the DZ and work on it.

I guess my point is that I would hate to see people trading in their old gear thinking that they will be able to go out and jump the technical site just down the road because they now have this great new invention.

Sweet, thanks! As long you don't spend too much time on it, because that would just slow down my Phoenix Pants order Wink.

If you could post said list, or PM it to me as well (if your plan is to PM it), I'd sure appreciate that. I've got the physics, but a suggested reading list from you would be gold.
