Re: [Zennie] pBASE #1
pBASE is definitely one cool mofo, I didn't get to see the jump in person because I wasn't up on the bridge at the time but I saw the video. Congrats and I hope that foot heals fast.

How fucking cool is that ?

Maybe later, a story with some of the (technical) difficulties ?

Congratulations Russell. Smile

I was lucky enough to be in the room when he announced it and presented the number to Russell. It was by far one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed. It brought many tears to the eyes of many people. Congrats to PBASE #1. Smile

Re: [Faber] pBASE #1
Just wanted to let people know that I haven't actually jumped all 4 objects YET! To my understanding the award I received at Bridge Day was more just an honorary title seeing as how I seem to be the first and only paraplegic BASE jumper. Right now I've only jumped bridges but am working on ways to do other objects. Hopefully in the near future it'll happen.
I think I'm going to put up a website of my progress in achieving my true BASE number. When I do I'll post it here so you all can take a look.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words.

Cya,
Russel

Yo Russel,

I know that doing your PCA the first time we (well you), tried the "Feat of backyard engineering" we built over at Tom's house, was one of the highlights of my BASE career.

Holding your pilot chute as you lowered yourself out there and then TURNED AROUND WITH ONE HAND 486' above the water, was truly inspiring.

Watching you let go and drop off into the void and onto the pages of BASE history was such an honor for me. Thanks for letting me in on the action!

Please, let me know if you need any help with the later stages of Project pBASE. I will be happy to drive, fly, hike, or climb to help you realize your goal.

Seriously, just ask. Respect dude.

Hey, missed you at bridge day this year! Hopefully we'll meet up again soon, when my foot heals that is. Wink

Thanks for the offer to help out, I'm sure in the future I'll be taking you (and others) up on thier offers to help. I've got a ways still to go but it will get done!

I hear you're doing some "B" 's with _____ in _____ in the near future. Have fun, be safe.

Just being there that day was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I showed that video and the first stowed jump video to a friend last night, and he was very impressed by both. He asked "Why did he land in the water both times?" And I replied, "Oh, because he's a paraplegic." He had no idea. Smile

Hehe.. Absolutely.

I was certain I was going to make it to Bridge Day. Oh well, there's next year. Continue to do cool things Russel, there's an army of people behind you knowing you'll succeed.

It's a long one, but that's a Nugget . . .

Russel,

Brother, I sure had fun seeing you again.

As one of your former AFF I's, I can say you are everything an Instructor wants in a student. The ability to become better than the Instructor, and to show others the way. And you do it with one of the best Cheshire cat grins I've ever seen . . .

I learned two things from you this Bridge Day.

1. You don't need to be old, to be a pioneer.

2. You are a stand up guy . . .
