Canopy colors idea...

Has anyone considered getting a canopy with either cell 1 or 7 a significantly different color than the rest of the canopy?

Let's say you've got linetwists and it's at night. Looking up, you could quickly identify which direction your canopy was facing relative to your body orientation.

This might be easier than looking at the risers (if they're all twisted up), or from sensing direction of flight (if you have very DBS).

(Having different halves of the canopy be different colors would work as well, if not better).

Any thoughts?

Hi.
I don't think you would identify malfunctions looking to the colors of the cells.
But iti's easier to pack than your canopy has the central cell of different color.
I think you should to figure out what kind of jumps would be your "regular". If you prefer to jump for filming it 'd be better to choice the flo colors.
If you're hoping to make a lot of "crime" jumps -- choice the dark colors.
Dark colors are more usefull than the object you jumped of is "easy to burn" and jumpable in the night or if it has the shitty landing.
My canopy is flo-yellow. Most of the object i've jumped located in "industrial zones" -- factory chimneys or B's under constructions. So, my canopy is dirty. It will be camoflage very soon.

I've seen canopies colored like that. I can see some good theory there, but I'm not sure if it's ever been put to practical test.

You might also consider getting the front third of the bottom skin done in a contrasting color. Seeing which way the canopy is flying is probably the first thing you want when looking up at it.

That was actually precisely my intention. Having certain cells colored would allow you to infer which way the canopy is facing. Having the front third of the bottom skin colored would also work, as you suggest.

My personal take is that it sounds good in theory, but unless you're already programmed to think that way (like having that scheme for a skydiving parachute) it probably won't wind working out that way in practice.

I can pretty much immediately figure out which direction my canopy is flying by the nose cells... which I tend to be looking at during inflation anyway.

But hey, it can't hurt.
