Hello all,

I will be travelling to Twin Falls for the weekend of Oct. 1 through the 3rd and am looking for reccomendations on places to stay. Also, how about restaraurants and things for my wife to do (keep it clean ) while I am 'busy' during the day.

Oh, if anyone else is traveling there from Northern Cali we have room in the vehicle for some ride sharing.

In my opinion, Ameritel and Shilo are the most BASE friendly hotels. They both have conference rooms they'll open up to let jumpers pack, etc. They also both have nice indoor pools and hot tubs, and fresh cookies at the front desk. I believe they also both offer BASE jumper discounts, so you'll want to mention that.


The restaurant scene in Twin isn't so great. Mostly it's the local incarnations of big chains. Outback, right by the bridge, does have BASE jumper happy hour 24 hours a day (second beer is a penny). The two best "local" restaurants, in my opinion, are the Garden (on Eastland? and Addison, by Kmart) and Prasai's Thai (on 2nd downtown or by the post office off North College). If you go to the Garden, try the chocolate potato (no joke) for desert. There's also supposedly a pretty good steak kind of place somewhere on Addison that Jimmy pointed me at, but I haven't had a chance to try it. Yo-Yo Cafe (on Addison, just east of Blue Lakes) is a pretty good spot, especially for lunch, but apparently it's changing hands soon (I semi-know the owners socially) so I'm not sure what it'll be like in the future.

I'm not sure what your wife likes to do but there is a big mall sort of place right next to the bridge if she wants to shop. It has a movie theater too.

I stayed at the Shilo when I was there and the rooms were good plus we got a BASE jumper rate.
The nice thing about the Shilo is they sometimes let you use a conference room for packing. There's a good mexican restaurant down the road from the Shilo too. I can't remember the name but they stay open later than most restaurants around there if I remember correctly.

What time are you leaving on Friday? I have a friend that might do Tom's class and was thinking of heading up too.

The Italian place right next to the span has a lot of hot chicks working there.

That ought to really get his wife going.

We will be leaving Thursday afternoon (~4:30 pm) and coming back Sunday night.

It's called Johnny Carinos. It's a chain from (I think) Texas. I like it quite a bit.

It's now called La Fiesta. It used to be part of the Cafe Ole chain, but I think it's now an independent (because I've not seen another La Fiesta). It's a great place for margaritas and beer. The food is ok, too.

You must be speaking of Stephanie. She's a cutie alright, but I haven't seen her since Memorial Day.

There are a good half dozen hotties in there. Then again, maybe I just had my "Idaho goggles" on at the end of the weekend.

Teach her to pack, buy multiple rigs and keep her busy. Hmmm ... on 2nd thought. Maybe this isn't such a good idea.

Seriously though, if she likes nature, scenery, and hiking, she could probably keep herself busy in the canyon for a while, very beatiful, especially sunset (I am sure sunrise as well, but I wouldn't be able to tell you). Also there is a golf course (I always try to get a few holes in, man golf is SO exciting) within a stones throw of the bridge, if you can throw a stone PRETTY far. Also there is a certain well known boat operator that does scenic tours up and down the river for $15 a pop. I hear the falls themselves are pretty incredible when they are flowing, but haven't checked them out yet. Hope it helps. Jump safe and have fun, that place is awesome. OOH, almost forgot, if you go for breakfast, the Buffalo Cafe is REAL good. I think it used to be called the Hong Kong Ranch, but that's another story. Tom could give you directions I imagine, I don't know the streets.

Ah. I forgot that, and it's one of my favorites.

I actually can't remember the street names. It's just off Gooding, somewhere around 4th South, I think.

Send your wife on a canyon tour, and she can watch you jump on the way back in (just be uber careful on that one). Then you get in the boat with her -- good to go.
