First Deaf Skydiver to do Base jumps!
Just wanted to share the news that Alan Thompson Jr, of Great Britain, has become the first Deaf Skydiver to do a BASE jump! He went to a BASE camp to make legal jumps off the 3000 foot cliffs in Norway last week.

A HUGE congratulations to Alan -- what a wonderful accomplishment and a warm welcome to the wonderful world of BASE.

By all means, this is not to take away from the accomplishment of his jumps, but there is a deaf BASE jumper from Montana who BASE jumps on a regular basis. I'm unsure how long he has been jumping, but I know that it's been at least a year.

Once again, I don't say this to take away anything from Alan, but there is another deaf BASE jumper out there who's been active for awhile.

Thank you for the heads up. I have not heard of this Deaf Base jumper in Montana. Please PM me if you have any additional info about him. I want to get in touch with this guy.

Thanks! It's okay if Alan is not the first one, he already has an impressive list of accomplishments. And he will be looking to compete in the Speed World Cup this weekend at Hibaldstow. He has routinely recorded speeds well over 300 mph in practice!

Reaching 300mph is really awesome! It's really impressive hearing about other's accomplishments -- helps us to strive to do better too.

There is another deaf BASE jumper that lives in northern Idaho. He's been jumping for at least 3 yrs. His name is Shawn ???

I think his name is Shawn. He had a little mentoring for the first few jumps, then went on his own. He has never made a skydive though. He is learning, but the hard way. I have seen some pretty rough landings, and some gainers gone bad from him...scary...
He is a very nice kid, and I took the time about a year ago to teach him some rigging so he can hook up his own canopies and stuff. He is at Perrine fairly often.

I made several jumps with a deaf BASE jumper last weekend.

His name is Shaun McLaughlin, and he lives in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho (very northern Idaho, near the Canadian border). He's been jumping for around 4 years, and has about 150 jumps. He's a regular at the legal span in Idaho, as well has having been down to Moab for the Turkey boogie and some other fun.

If we steal your glasses, I think you'd count.

I've done a couple jumps with a blindfold on--does that count? The rule was that you had to leave the blindfold on until after you were under canopy.

Doesn't count. You have the option to see again.

Whew! The blindfold option has to be done at least once. A high bridge or a certain electrical wire support apparatus comes to mind.
