Two Firsts
Well, Ive had less than 2 hours of sleep with no thanks to State Troopers who shut down about 80 miles of a very major highway. I had to go around the detour which extended my trip by 3 hours. But "Bob" (I dont know if he wants his name in the forum so we will call him "Bob") waited very patiently for me which I graciously thanked him for it. We were planning on making a minimum of 2 jumps but since the detour ate up much of that time if was cut short to one. Bob took me to my very first A as well as my first night BASE jump. He took me up to 400' which is my lowest so far since my previous 17 were off the legal span in the NW. I was planning on taking a 2 sec delay but I wussed out and only did 1 sec (I need to count slower). The winds were going straight down the wire, but were very calm on the ground like 2-3 knots and at 400' they were around 8. Opening was right on heading so I set up my approach and slid in for a landing. Bob went up to 800' and did about a 5 sec Birdman flight.
For the record, Bob, if you are reading this I owe you 2 cases of beer.
Now this is becoming a problem, I made a 300+ mile, 6 hour roundtrip drive to do one jump, but I was smiling the whole way back feeling very alive. Is this normal or should I seek counseling for my new addiction? Should I sell my skydiving rig and get another BASE rig?
